28 Pounds of Pot Seized from Pa. Man

A Pennsylvania man with ties to Montgomery and Bucks counties is stopped in Oklahoma for allegedly carrying large amounts of marijuana.

One Pennsylvania man should have used more caution when changing lanes Friday.

Casey Sharp Ward, 21, of various addresses in Montgomery and Delaware counties of Pennsylvania, was stopped in El Reno, Oklahoma after a Canadian County deputy sheriff noticed him change lanes without a signal.

That wasn't all he noticed.

"When the deputy approached the car, he smelled the strong odor of marijuana," according to a report from NewsOn9.com

With that suspicion in mind, the deputy called in a drug-sniffing dog. Before long, 28 pounds of marijuana was found in Ward's vehicle's trunk.

Sheriff Randall Edwards told KFOR local television news, "It didn’t take a whole lot of investigating once the deputies smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle."

The Pennsylvania man was, according to Channel 6 Oklahoma's Own, charged with "marijuana trafficking, conspiracy to commit a felony, and concealing drug proceeds."

Yet if this would have happened in a different state it wouldn't be a felony at all...now would it?

Hi Sandy, I live in CA where pot is legalized. For that much marijuana, it would be a felony. A person is only allowed to have what is for personal use, by a doctor's prescription.

Plus, it is against Federal law, for any state.. When people are going overboard with there growing of it, the Feds step in and stop it.

The purpose of legalizing marijuana is so people with cancer can still eat. Without marijuana, people with cancer cannot eat without getting sick.

I do not eat or grow the stuff. It has raised crime in CA.

@Ruth,

First off, marijuana is NOT legal in CA on the state level. It is decriminalized (different than legalization) and only legal for medical patients. The medical and decriminalized legal and political structures in CA are not even close to those of full-blown legalization such as in CO or WA.

But, as if the lack of knowledge of the cannabis situation in your own state (I live in PA, mind you) doesn't already invalidate your claim, please elaborate on how pot has raised crime in CA.

It would have been right here in Norristown for a dime bag what you talking about. That's what they do if they catch certain people. A felony for 1 or maybe even 4 $10 bags for personal use. Nothing else and you also get a $2000-$5000 bail, lol. They are crooked as crooked eyes can get. Hunsicker is crooked too and she does whatever they want ther to do not even caring about it.

It works great for ADHD too, as an adult I don't want to take medication that acts like cocaine in the brain and I don't want to take Ambien and kill someone because of sleep walking or sleep driving. There are many uses for weed unlike alcohol that does nothing for you except poison your organs..These ancient laws need to go!

I have been using weed for pain for the past 25 years (I'm in my fifties) I didnt smoke pot prior to that either. tried it because didnt want to take pain meds. quality weed works great for pain management. I smoke 4 set times a day and have never needed pain medication I didnt always schedule it but as I learned more over the years this is the practice I use and feel works for me. that said 28 pounds in the trunk is and should be a felony

No it should not, it's a plant. The fact that they are charging him with a felony also makes no sense. For example, if an officer pulls over someone who has all the classic burglary tools for robbing a bank (ie: face mask, demand note, guns), he still isn't able to charge that person with robbing the bank because it didn't actually happen. Yet, if that same officer pulls over someone with 28lbs of pot, he can automatically arrest him for dealing, even without the officer ever observing him make a sale. Why does it work like that? We're talking about pot here, not a mobile meth lab...

I do not take something that is bad for me. Marijuana is bad stuff.
Tobacco is a plant, too. That does make it good for you.
There are poisonous plants, like poison oak or poison ivy.

I didn't ask if you used it or not, I asked you to elaborate on how it has caused more crime in CA. If you don't want to be associated with it, thats your decision, but lets not start randomly throwing unfounded claims on the table.

"Marijuana is bad stuff." I would like to know where you get your facts. The only thing bad is the prohibition on this miracle plant. I can back my claims...can you? http://www.cannabisresearchaz.com/

Ruth it is not bad, it makes you relax, especially after a hard days work. If they could find a way they could benefit and not feel guilty or wrong they would and they will. How many of you believe what Imagine said that right here you can get caught by certains officer's and haev exactly 1 $10 bag along with driving under suspension to have a bail and actually get sent to the Commonwealth Courts which is a waste of taxpayers money. This is all done by the same person mentioned above in Imagine's post. I actually know 2 people who is going through that now. It is not a felony and it is sad what they can do and get away with.

Im not saying its not bad or it is but in my own daily life it helps me with a lot of problems through out my day like anxiety, i have a lot of trouble eating and it makes me feel so much better in many other ways but i do not call myself a medical marijuana user i like it because it just helps its that simple i look at cancer patients and other chronic pain disorders as medical patients either way i live in pa where its of course not legal i have schulyosis may be mispelled but even now i rarely get strong enough stuff to actually take my back pain away i just wish it would be legal here already

It doesnt sound like your okay with knowing that your medicine might get you locked up. But it doesnt sound like you want it to change either. Isnt this a quality of life issue for you? If you have to use zanx to manage your anxiety your putting your self at elevated risk that dont exhist with weed. If you have to also take vicodine or ativans or percs or even nurotin for your pain..you are doing serious damage to your liver and stomach. Why would you have such a non chalant attitude torwards the legalization of your medication? Its not okay to deny people something they need so much. Tobacco has a PHYSICAL addition rate of 32% weed doesnt. There too many other people like yourself that would more than benefit from legislation like this..dont be afraid to speak up a little louder, we the people make our laws in pa..they must vote how we say vote or get out of office..you cant be prosecuted for saying that you are in favor of legalization. ..wishing you a better quality of life and a louder voice....

so many people saying weed is bad for you..I need to know how so? Its interesting that some of you say weed is bad for you but say that you use it daily or whenever your aches and pains and ills. lots and lots of clinical studies have been done in other countries that do allow the use of mmj..have you thought to check those out at all? here let me post the link.

Pick your ailment and see the clinical trials that were done.. Have fun with that. America isnt known for looking out for its people just look at the current GMO situation..and if that isnt good enough think about how it took america 500 years to say ciggs are bad for you..You cant depend of the church or the gov to tell what is and isnt good for you..do the research then post a reply.

No one mentioned it yet, however many governmental agencies are worried about taxing pot, missing out on tax collections, etc... And how about alcohol and what it does to your body versus pot? If legalized in PA, i would replace my liquor for pot asap.
