Ex-Towamencin Man Gets 5 Years for Shaking 5-Month-Old Son

Danilo Duran, formerly of Nashmont Court, was sentenced to five years in prison for pleading guilty to felony assault on his son, which hospital officials described as "shaken baby syndrome"

Former Towamencin resient Danilo Antonio Duran, 41, will sit in state prison for two to five years for admitting to shaking and assaulting his five-month-old son in 2011.

According to Carl Hessler Jr. of North Penn Life, Duran, formerly of the 1900 block of Nashmont Court, pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault in connection with the September 2011 incident that occurred while his son was in his care.

The guilty plea was an agreement between defense attorney Michael Nix and Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Matthew Quigg, according to the article.

Duran admitted to violently shaking his son on the morning of Sept. 26, 2011, enough to cause serious bodily injury in a reckless manner without regard for human life, according to the article.

His son has since recovered from his injuries.

On Sept. 26, at 11:35 a.m., Duran flagged down a Towamencin Township officer on patrol near Forty Foot Road and Allentown Road.

Duran told police he had been attempting to drive his five-month-old child to the hospital because the chid had suffered a seizure, police said.

Police immediately summoned an ambulance to respond, and both parties were taken to Grand View Hospital in West Rockhill Township, police said.

Grand View Hospital identified two subdural hematomas indicative of a significant and serious head injury, police said.

The child was transferred to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Towamencin Police and Montgomery County Children and Youth Services were notified. These and other findings indicated injuries consistent with “shaken baby syndrome," police said.

Subsequent to the police investigation, Towamencin Detectives found that Duran had sole care, custody, and control over the child since 5:50 a.m. Sept. 26 at his home on the 1900 block of Nashmont Court.

On Sept. 29, 2011, Duran was arrested by Towamencin Detectives and charges were filed.
