How to Recycle your Campaign Signs

Montgomery County announces campaign sign recycling program

With election day over, there are now thousands of metal and plastic campaign signs sprinkled throughout the county and township, most likely being plucked from the earth as we speak.

In years past, these signs often found themselves heading to the landfill, but thanks to a new program from the Montgomery County Recycling Office, residents can now get rid of them in a more responsible way.

There are ten locations in the county where homeowners and candidates can drop off the signs, which will then head to ReCommunity Recycling in Philadelphia or Sullivan's Scrap Metals in Lower Moreland, both partners with the county on the project.

For Montgomeryville and Lansdale residents, the closest location is Lower Salford Township, 379 Main St., Harleysville.

The release also states that the program in no way shifts responsibility for cleanup from the candidates.

“This collection program does not take the responsibility for cleaning up campaign signs away from candidates. Instead, we want to connect candidates and home owners with drop off points so that signs can be recycled instead of thrown in the trash,” said Chris Kaasmann, Montgomery County Recycling Coordinator.

Signs can also be dropped off at the following locations:
