A 12-year-old boy from the 100 block of East Main Street in Lansdale was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital Thursday afternoon after he ran into a car near the intersection of Main and Broad streets.

Police will not release the names of juveniles involved in incidents. Due to HIPAA laws, Abington Memorial Hospital will not release the status of the youth without a name.

Lansdale Police responded to call at 3:15 p.m. of a pedestrian struck near Broad and Main streets.

According to police, witnesses saw the boy run west across Broad Street from the Lukoil parking lot toward Rite Aid.

Witnesses told police the boy quickly looked both ways before darting out into the street, police said.

Two drivers in two separate vehicles quickly hit their brakes to avoid hitting him, police said.

The boy continued across the northbound lanes into the southbound lanes of Broad Street, where he ran into the driver side door of a 1996 Toyota Camry, driven by a 71-year-old woman from Hatfield, police said.

Police said the Hatfield woman did not see the boy, as there was traffic backed up in the left-turn lane of northbound Broad Street for westbound Main Street.

The boy's parent was notified, and he was transported by Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale to Abington Memorial Hospital, police said.

Due to his injuries, police were not able to speak with him at scene, police said.
