Lansdale Man Arrested for Felony Drug Charges
Wendell Savage Jr., 27, was arrested for allegedly transporting 7.5 grams of cocaine in his Lincoln Navigator in Lansdale
Wendell Savage Jr. woke up the morning of August 14 knowing he was headed to a summary hearing in Lansdale.
When Savage Jr. arrived at the Lansdale District Court of Judge Harold Borek, Lansdale Police were waiting with an arrest warrant for felony drug charges: they were already in the process of relinquishing his Navigator over to the Montgomery County District Attorney.
Police said Savage Jr., 27, of the 300 block of West Main Street in Lansdale, was arrested for allegedly driving with cocaine in his SUV.
He was arrested after police served a search warrant on August 8, in connection with a traffic stop the night before.
On August 7, at 7:20 p.m., Lansdale Police pulled over a Lincoln Navigator, driven by Savage Jr., police said.
Lansdale Police were acting on a tip that Savage Jr. was allegedly selling controlled substances from a blue Lincoln Navigator, police said.
Police said Savage Jr. allegedly made comments that led officers to request assistance from Montgomery Township Police’s narcotics-detection-trained K-9 officers.
The K-9s hit on the scent of controlled substances in the vehicle, police said.
Police said Savage was driving in violation of his probationary license. His car was towed on site, police said, and Savage Jr. was released.
On August 8, police served a search warrant on the Navigator, and nine bags of cocaine totaling 7.5 grams were found in the SUV's glovebox, police said.
Police said attempts to contact Savage Jr. on Aug. 8 were made, but were unsuccessful.
Savage was arraigned before District Judge Patricia Zaffarano of Ambler on the following charges:
- Felony Possession With Intent to Distribute
- Misdemeanor Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Restrictions on Use of a Probationary License
Zaffarano set bail at $50,000 cash, police said.
Savage Jr. was taken to Montgomery County Prison in lieu of bail, which he posted on Aug. 15, according to prison records.
Savage Jr. had a case adjudicated in Montgomery County Court in 2010 and was assigned to one year in Montgomery County's ARD community service program; he was charged with receiving stolen property and driving without a license or insurance or registration in 2009 in Upper Gwynedd, according to court records.
