Lansdale Man Running as Write-In Candidate in 53rd District

Mick Wynne is running for Pennsylvania's 53rd Legislative District against incumbent Robert Godshall

When you vote today for the 53rd District in the Pennsylvania General Assembly, write-in Wynne.

Lansdale resident Mick Wynne, a retired Merck employee who moved to the borough in 1964, kicked off his campaign Sunday as a write-in Democratic candidate for the Primary Election today.

According to a press release, Wynne's top priorities are to protect the rights of women, stop cuts to education and defend our lands with safer use of resources.

“Pennsylvania’s state-affiliated universities have, for decades, provided our hopeful and promising students with an excellent education at a great value," said Wynne in a press release. "I have two children who graduated from these institutions who are proof of that. But after multi-million dollar cuts to state funding, and another Republican proposal to cut even more this year, families that need cost-effective options more than ever are being hit with tuition increases of hundreds of dollars per semester.”

On the rights of women, Wynne said Godshall co-sponsored a bill that would create state-mandated trans-vaginal ultrasounds for women seeking an abortion.

"Women should not be forced to follow this unnecessary order from their government,” said Wynne.

Wynne said someone in Harrisburg needs to defend our state lands against gas drilling companies.

"(The gas drilling companies) have already committed over 3,000 violations of state law in just the past four years,” he said in a release.

According to the press release, Wynne was born in Schuylkill County in 1951.

Wynne is a graduate of and worked at Merck, Sharp and Dohme for 38 years, beginning in 1970. Wynne's father, Michael, served in the South Pacific during World War II and resides in Lansdale.

Wynne's prior leadership experience includes local secretary treasurer for the Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers' Union, where he also served as an original charter member. At Merck, Wynne was chairman of the United Steel Workers' Union.

He graduated from Gwynedd-Mercy College in 1993 with a bachelor's in history with teacher's certification.

Wynne is the father of four children and three grandchildren. His youngest son, Steven, attends York Avenue Elementary.
