Local Group Takes Porn Protest to Adult World
'The King's Men' say they'll protest until the Montgomeryville location is shut down.
A local group of anti-pornography protesters has taken aim at the Adult World in Montgomeryville, hoping that their efforts will result in the business closing its doors permanently.
"We're not here to hurt anybody's livelihood, but these businesses have no place in our community," said Dave Dinuzzo, member of the Quakertown-based King's Men. "They're destroying lives, marriages and families."
The group views pornography as something that exploits women, contributes to crime, and ultimately pulls men away from God.
"It's a sin of isolation; a sin of loneliness," said Mark Houck, co-founder of the King's Men. "Pornography is a pandemic in our culture. This is a division between Man and God."
Houck said that his group focuses on education, and regularly hosts conferences, retreats, and accountability meetings aimed at strengthening men's relationship with God while overcoming the temptation of pornography.
In addition to those initiatives, activism plays a large role, and that role had 10 members of the group standing in the rain on Wednesday evening, holding signs and trying to dissuade customers from entering or making a purchase.
"We've all been there, and we all know how much of a grasp pornography can have on a person, and we want to tell people that there is something better," said Dinuzzo. "I know this firsthand. I'm a recovering pornography addict, as are many of us that are out here. It controls your life, but there's so much better and so much more."
The effects of the relatively small protest were immediately apparent, as would-be customers entered the parking lot, only to leave moments later without exiting their vehicles. Other customers entered the building through the rear entrance.
One customer actually parked at an adjacent business, sneaking through the brush and bushes in order to enter the building. Another customer simply entered through the front, though he received an earful as he walked back to his vehicle.
Eventually, police told the protesters that they weren't allowed on the grounds.
Though the group started locally five years ago, it has already become a national organization with partner groups across the country. To date, they claim to have shutdown five sexually-oriented businesses, including the former Coyote Show Club in Quakertown, which closed its doors in 2009 after numerous protests.
That location has now been turned into Caitlyn & Cody’s, a diner and family fun center, which the group celebrates as an example of morality coming around full circle.
In regards to the Montgomeryville Adult World, they just want it gone.
"We'll be out here for the long haul, however long it takes," said Dinuzzo. "We'll protest here until this place is shut down."
A man who identified himself as the manager of Adult World in Montgomeryville declined to give his name or comment for this article.
A video featuring interviews with Dinuzzo and Houck is available above.

This is America! AW has a right to do business. Don't like it? Don't shop there! My marriage isn't being ruined by AW being in our community. We've bought stuff there before to enjoy together! Just because this Christian group doesn't want it, that doesn't mean nobody else should be able to shop there!

I agree with Lori-Ann. They do not speak for myself at all and I live in the community. If you believe porn is addictive, fine. If you believe Porn destroys marriages, fine. You can believe whatever you want. Please, do not hurt a business in our community because of YOUR ideals. The King's Men should put their effots towards helping those in the community in need and stop protesting businesses and stop taking pleasure in shutting down and trying to shut down people's jobs. It's rough enough out there!

Brian Rox - The Kings Men is run by men whose lives were almost ruined by pornography. I challenge you to educate yourself by calling Dave or Mark from The Kings Men to understand the devastating effects addiction to pornography has on society. It is not simply their opinion or a belief they have that pornography ruins marriages and can be addictive, they know these are facts by first hand experience. Please, call them, we need you and other men to better understand and combat this cancer on our society. Visit www.thekingsmen.us for Dave's and Mark's phone numbers.

JimH.. If these people ruined their lived, they have other problems outside of porn. And frankly, if they have those type of problems if there wasn't porn it would be something else.. D&D, or WOW, or something else. .. To paraphrase something I used to hear growing-up... Porn doesn't destroy marriages, People destroy marriages.

You can't control an addiction in this manner. Fortunately the vast majority are not addicts.. to food, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, etc Addiction is bad, treat the disease. The more you drive things underground, the dirtier it gets.

@jimH -- Thanks for the offer to call Dave or Mark to learn more about their inability to control themselves and their want to control my personal freedoms and use tactics to end others livelihoods.
I will pass at this time.
I am sorry that marriages fall apart, but I firmly believe that marriages fall apart because those individuals who could not remain together. Porn was simply the catalyst, not the cause.
If your marriage failed because your wife caught you watching porn. Your marriage was already over, your wife just caught you watching porn and that's an easy out in some circles.
If you can't stop yourself from watching porn, there is an on/off button featured on some models of dvd players and computers. If you need computers for work etc. There net nanny and other devices for your computer that will block sites from your browser. If you still find yourself rushing to the porn store to satisfy your urge, you may want to speak with a mental health professional.
Seek real professional help. Not clergy.
If pornographic images hurt society so much where will you stop? Shut down more legal shops, magazines, then on to books, etc?
You do not speak for the entire community.
Your version of "Real Men" is to pressure others to think and act like yourself.
Please use your resources for good in the community.

JimH - the fact that they allowed their lives to be ruined by their addictions doesn't give them a right to harm another's legal business. the same as former alcoholics can't go inside liquor stores and preach the virtues of sobriety, and reformed compulsive gamblers can't go into a private company and scream at people who purchase lottery tickets.
if they want to help, open a clinic for porn addicts and offer counceling, but dont infringe on the rights of others in the community who use AW's legal products for enjoyment because you think you're morally superior. dbag

their logic is flawed. the porn industry like all industry is based on supply and demand. if we didn't want it - they wouldn't make. its simple thekingsmen are targeting a local retailer because it's an easy target, something they can wrap their heads around. the real trick is to cut the flow of money by changing people on the individual level. if they could turn society's love of porn into a love of the bible - adult world and all the other suppliers would be out of business. fact. (though more than likely they would just sell bibles, because hey - it's what the public is asking for, right? cha-ching!)

Thanks for all the comments in response to my post. I understand your opinions, heard them before, said them myself many many years ago. The invitation is still there. Call Dave, Mark, or Damian from The Kings Men. You all took the few minutes to write your opinion on this web site. Challenge yourself. Take a few minutes to educate yourself on this issue.

Challenge myself? That would be a challenge for me to think in such a way!ucate myself about a crazy job destroying/ personal rights infringing organization's motives? I wouldn't call Westboro Baptist to get "their opinion".
"We'll be out here for the long haul, however long it takes," said Dinuzzo. "We'll protest here until this place is shut down." to me that equals a threat. Correct me if I am wrong here. It's "the king's men" motive to shut this place down based on it's beliefs.
The intent of this group is to shut down a business. A business that has employees.
Let me leave you with a few quotes:
"Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
I know you can pull up images of founding fathers worshiping at various places, so let me leave you with another quote. The next time you want to threaten someone's livelihood think of this:
Matthew 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
I welcome you JimH to talk to me as much as you want. As you said yourself, " I understand your opinions, heard them before, said them myself many many years ago."
I know talking out the issue and understanding an important issue of self control, I could help you return to some rational thinking. It's never too late to be respectful of people's rights.
It's just sex, if you don't like it.... blame the one who you think created it.

Jesus was too ambiguous in his teachings. "Judge not, lest ye be judged." "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." I, for one, am very grateful to these protesters for helping me to interpret Jesus' divine teachings. Here I was going around NOT judging people and treating them how *I* want to be treated.

Good point Lori-Ann. Just think about all the people who were recently told by a Preacher that the world was about to end, so they sold their house, quit their jobs and waited. Now they're homeless and jobless. Clearly, Religion ruined their lives. Let's picket the King's Men church to prevent other lives from being ruined by religion.

Men destroyed those people's lives, not religion. Religion is a set of beliefs and while most religions has a clerical heirarchy, those people are HUMAN and subject to the same flaws as the rest of us. Blaming religion for destroying people's lives or other aspects is flawed.
People have to make decisions on how to respond or act with regard to their religion.

Has anyone commenting here actually looked at the studies and statistics which detail the harm of porn? If you have actually looked into these, and can disprove them, that would be interesting information to hear. The facts can't be denied, porn harms people and society. Prove me wrong if you can.

Interesting approach. Do we need to go through the laundry list of evidence showing that organized religion harms people and society?

No one has the right to treat another human being as a "thing", even if there is consent. Those who buy pornography are paying to make "things" out of other human beings for their own personal pleasure, and the actors involved are making “things” out of themselves in order to make money. In addition, the products bought at these types of places for couples "enjoyment" only serve to cheapen the beauty and intimacy of marital relations, and causes couples to use each other as playthings rather than to truly love one another. Society and all people of good will must promote the dignity of the human person, and part of that is not permitting businesses like this in their midst. Practically all of humanity’s problems begin with not treating the other with respect. I applaud the men who are protesting this business peacefully in order to preserve human dignity.

I just read this little piece here and let me tell you the truth. I, up until fairly recently, worked at the AW in Montgomeryville. There's a few things in this article that I think I need to set straight because it seems the writer didn't bother to do research and just took what they said at face value.
One of the first things mentioned is how the protests musts be working. There's even proof. Cars would drive in and due to the combined magic from 7 wizards holding signs, would drive right back out. Yes. This does happen. If the writer had spent more than fifteen minutes there, he would have realized that the lot itself is a pretty well known U-turn spot because it's one of the few places in a busy area where you can U-turn and not get in a 16 car pile-up. This happens constantly on Wednesdays at 4 and Fridays at 2:30 AM. What I'm saying is, that happens all the time. I would have put that last part in italics if I could.
The second tidbit of "proof" is the fact that the wizards caused people to park at the nearby stores and sneak into the store, as to not be noticed. Again, this happens all the time. I know, adding this part makes it seem like they're winning or something but at the end of the day, it's a porn shop. Not everyone is comfortable walking into a porn shop especially when they're a valuable member of the community. Again, this happens constantly and has NOTHING to do with the sign-holding Harry Potters.

Also, look, in the AW itself, we kinda looked at the protestors as a joke. I get they have a message but it's convoluted. They hold signs about degrading women and then yell and call names to women who shop there with their boyfriend/husband. I mean, really, how is that not ass-backwards?
If anything, we looked at the protestors as a good thing. They're free advertisement. They're congratulatory because they stop people from shopping on a Wednesday afternoon, not even taking into account that the people who don't shop during the day, always come in after 7 when they're long gone.
Again, nobody would have a problem with these guys if they just protested. That's their given rights as Americans, but shouting degrading things while holding signs blaming us for doing the same? That's a laugh.

Here's something interesting. There is a protester that I will not forget, he is always running towards cars shouting things at the driver as they go into the parking lot. While I was at the adult world on 309 the other night I saw him inside browsing around the dvd section. I doubt it was under cover work. These stores do not exploit women. Some people have a very healthy sex life and enjoy shopping in the store. Some people like to watch porn. Watching porn does not lead to sex crimes or perversion. So please go protest abortion clinics or political rallies. These places would not be in business if they were not making money and there making money by people spending money on their products. which means a lot of people shop there and they are not sick or perverted people just people that enjoy a little spice in their life. Find something better to do with you time and leave the adult stores alone.

I live near the business and it's been there forever. Every time I see those guys and I have the chance I tell them to go home and F@*K there wives or to try a dildo. I think it's so dumb what they are trying to do and agree with a lot of these other posts. If they don't like it they should move. I prefer sex toys and the places I can get them, Not to mention AW has done a lot to make the place look respectable. I will be starting a blog to protest the protesters and help drive business to AW every first Wednesday of each month which is when they are out there.
