Man Struck By Train in Hatfield

Transported by ambulance to Abington Memorial Hospital

A SEPTA train was stopped on the northbound tracks in Hatfield last night after apparently striking an unidentified adult man.

Witnesses at the scene described the man emerging from the brush behind the Taco Bell location on Broad Street. He appeared to be seriously injured and said he'd just been struck by a train.

Rich Pietras of the Courier Times reported on his Twitter feed that according to a Taco Bell employee, the victim had picked up food at the Broad Street location, and was struck by the train as he walked out behind the parking lot.

A police officer at the scene who did not identify himself said the man was speaking and conscious as he was placed in an ambulance.

He was then transported to Abington Memorial Hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

Office Michael Sloan of the Hatfield Police is conducting an investigation of the incident and told a reporter that the department would be issuing a press release with additional information.

Either suicide - pathetic he failed; listening to his iPad while on the tracks - stupid; or on his way to the 3rd & Walnut Pub or Junction House - pathetic.

He's lucky to be alive. And not all train accidents are suicide. There are such things as accidents. Unfortunately these horrible things happen. ;(

I will be interested to hear what has transpired.
Trains are not like cars, you can not turn the wheel in the direction you want to go. So how did the person come to be on the tracks, the path of the train????? Was he crossing the tracks/trespassing??
