Because Earth Day (April 22) falls on the Easter holiday weekend this year, many organizations are observing the day in honor of our planet by hosting celebrations and festivals this weekend instead.
1. AmeriKick Karate
Where/When: AmeriKick Karate, 1551 S. Valley Forge Road, Lansdale; April 16, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Why go: Participate in short class sessions, watch demonstrations, and enter to win prizes. AmeriKick is also raising funds for Save the Children.

2. Earth Day Celebration at Habitat for Humanity
Where/When: Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, 533 Foundry Road, Norristown; April 16, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Why go: The Habitat for Humanity ReStore will host “green” demonstrations, a planting station for kids, recycling bins for televisions and electronics, giveaways, music and refreshments.
Pricing: Free, and the first 600 people receive a free pair of gardening gloves
Where/When: Elmwood Park Zoo, 1661 Harding Blvd., Norristown; April 16, 10 a.m.
Why go: The Easter Bunny and some of his animal friends will make an appearance at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, with an educational egg hunt and tasty treats.
Pricing: $15 adults, $20 children; Members get 10 percent off
Where/When: Montgomery Mall, 230 Montgomery Mall, North Wales; April 16, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why go: Celebrate Earth Day at the mall. Free electronics recycling (no businesses, televisions or household appliances), residential shredding, eco demonstrations on composting, rain barrels and more, kids crafts and giveaways.

5. International Spring Festival
Where/When: North Penn High School, 1340 S. Valley Forge Road, Lansdale; April 16, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why go: The 20th annual International Spring Festival is presented by the International Club of the Lansdale Library.
