Mystery Tour for Aug. 19

Our tour this week is sure to take you back to old days in Montgomeryville.

Last week’s Mystery Tour location was a residence at the intersection of Cannon Avenue and Main Street in Lansdale.

The latest Mystery Tour will take us to the area, and this structure has witnessed an abundance of changes since it was constructed.

In its earlier years, this stone edifice was located near a small intersection—not even in need of traffic signals. Today, this same crossroad is controlled by numerous lights in attempt to channel the throngs of vehicles safely across to their desired destination.

Stonework, rarely seen in building construction today, graces this tired and worn out two-story structure. Many varied retail establishments called this place home—including a fabric outlet, a mattress store and other speciality shops.

But its humble beginnings were that of an institution of higher learning for those early inhabitants of the township. Former students have memories of classes being held on all floors—including the basement right next to the boiler room. Some years later, lucky students recall moving into —built as a new and modern replacement.
