Norristown Man Allegedly Causes $5,000 in Damage at Wawa

William James Morris, 27, of Fornance Street, allegedly flipped out inside the Wawa at Forty Foot and Welsh roads in Towamencin, causing $5,000 in damage

A Norristown man was arrested and charged by Towamencin Township Police Oct. 26 after allegedly causing a disturbance at Wawa at 1401 Forty Foot Road.

William James Morris, 27, of the 300 block of Fornance Street, is charged with criminal mischief, terroristic threats, public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana, police said.

Wawa employees told police that Morris allegedly began acting in an erratic manner inside the store and attempted to go behind the deli counter, police said.

When confronted by the manager, Morris allegedly began yelling profanity, jumping up and down and flailing his arms in the air, police said.

Morris allegedly began knocking down displays and merchandise, police said.

Morris also allegedly threw several computers to the floor and threw a large-screen TV, damaging and shattering all items, police said.

Police said the coffee bar, deli counter and a number of displays were damaged during the disturbance.

Damages are estimated at $5,000, police said.

Police responded to Wawa at around 10:45 p.m. Oct. 26 and encountered Morris, who was allegedly acting disorderly outside the store through yelling and using profanity.

Morris appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance, police said.

Police attempted to calm Morris, but he allegedly persisted in the disorderly conduct by disturbing and alarming other people in the area, police said. Morris was taken into custody.

Morris was allegedly in possession of a small amount of marijuana, police said.

Morris was arraigned by District Judge McHugh and taken to Montgomery County prison in lieu of 10 percent of $25,000 cash bail, police said.

Morris posted bail on Oct. 28 and was released, according to prison records.
