NWS: 'Worst Case Scenario' as Sandy Nears
Storm will 'strike the region with devastating impacts'
The National Weather Service (NWS) at noon on Monday issued its most dire warnings yet regarding Hurricane Sandy, which strengthened overnight and remained at hurricane strength as it headed for a landfall sometime Monday night.
"Hurricane Sandy will strike the region with devastating impacts," NWS spokesman Gary Szatkowski said in a briefing issued by the agency's Mt. Holly, N.J. forecast office.
"Hurricane Sandy will strike our region directly. Options for it to miss us have run out. This is our worst case scenario," Szatkowski said.
The revised forecast called for:
- Strong damaging sustained winds 40 to 55 mph over a prolonged period of time (24 to 48 hours), with gusts over 75 mph. Strongest winds are expected south and east of the I-95 corridor.
- Extremely heavy rainfall.
- Major to record inland flooding along streams and rivers.
- Major to record coastal flooding.
"The full moon on October 29 just makes things worse," Szatkowski said.

The county only has three shelters open. They are located in Norristown, Cheltenham and Pottstown. You can find more info on our interactive map: http://pottstown.patch.com/articles/interactive-map-storm-s-local-effects.

@cliffy44 - First of all, why would you post a smart a** comment like that during this horrible storm. Everyone is stressed. Why would you want to add to that. Your comment shows just what kind of a person you really are, but I will keep that to myself Second, I read the Plymouth-Whitemarsh Patch and it says it right at the top of the page. So while YOU are reading Norristown, we are reading the same article but different towns, as Melissa Treacy said the article is shared. You should think about the things you say and how it might affect someone Before you say them. This is not the time (nor is it ever) to act that way.
