Old Navy Sponsors Fundraiser for Lansdale Youth

Old Navy, along with organizations like North Penn PAL and North Penn YMCA, and area businesses like Chantilly Floral, Theraplay and Cardano Realtors, held a bake sale fundraiser for Matthew Knoebel and his family

It was a case of come one, come all when local shoppers and supporters stopped in Old Navy at Airport Square in Montgomery Township Saturday for a bake sale fundraiser to support Matthew Knoebel, 13, and his family.

Knoebel, a Penndale Middle Schooler, is battling acute myeloid leukemia and is awaiting a bone marrow transplant this month.

Old Navy brought out businesses like Cardano Realtors, Chantilly Floral Boutique, Theraplay and Wells Fargo to support the cause. North Penn YMCA had a table at the store, as did North Penn Police Activities League.

There was also a face painting table in the back of the store manned by associate Ali Moore.

Tables were set up around the store for the entire business day. Assistant store manager Aisha Jones said their goal of $500 was met by 2 p.m.

"We'll keep it up all day and (Sunday)," said Jones. "All proceeds will go to the Knoebel family."

Jones said the store holds a "Meet the Community" event every first Saturday. She said the North Penn YMCA informed her of Knoebel's fight with cancer, and they "jumped" on the opportunity.

"Things have been really good so far," said assistant store manager Brook Powell. "We've had a ton of foot traffic. We've had 800 people today, and we don't hit that until 7, 8 p.m."

He said he and his associates were "very happy" with the turnout.

"The most important thing is positive energy, and it's for a great cause," he said.

"Matthew's family has been here, and they were very happy, very pleased," added Jones.

An April 27 fundraiser for Knoebel, organized by the North Penn PAL, is set for Penndale Middle School.

It was also recently announced that Corpus Christi CYO, the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches will hold a March Madness basketball tournament to benefit Knoebel and his family, with all proceeds going directly to the former Corpus Christi School student. The tournament runs March 8 to March 10.
