"We want them to have ownership, to be a part of it. More important, once it's built, you want them to say, 'Man. This is really what we've been looking for.' To go any other way would be foolish." - Carl Saldutti, Lansdale Parks and Recreation Director
As previous reported on Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch, Lansdale Parks and Recreation Committee is making 2013 "The Year of the Skate Park."
Borough Councilwoman Mary Fuller announced five potential locations that she and Saldutti are looking at for the skate park.
Take the poll, and express your opinion of where you'd prefer a skate park.
If you think it would do better on another piece of borough-owned property, or private property, let us know in the comments.
(Reminder: The old Lans-Bowl site is out of the question — it's owned by the North Penn YMCA and is the future proposed site of the Lansdale Collaborative Project.)

I think that a skate park is a great idea for the kids in Lansdale. I do not think that a current park should be taken away and turned into a skate park. I also do not think that open space should be taken away and turned into a skate park. I think that it would be a great idea to use a space that has been empty for a while and turn it into a skate park.. We have so many buildings that sit empty and unused, and look horrible. Why don't we turn them into a more attractive and functional space, rather than taking away an established public park or open space? -Kathleen Houdeshell

I believe the old train station is a great spot for this to happen. I believe I have mentioned it in a previous post as well. That plot of land has been empty and decaying since I was born, it is centrally located and easy to get to, it is more then large enough, no residential buildings are directly next to it (I know there is a home built next to it but I believe it is abandoned correct?) and it's also located close to the police department, train station, and Main Street Lansdale. I believe building a park here would also cause local businesses to flourish such as restaurants and small shops. I think if you try and hide the skate park on the outskirts you won't see the use you expect. Also this idea would coincide with Katherine's post.

I agree with Cowles. That spot has been unused for so long. It would also be highly visible due to it's proximity to locations Cowles mentioned so you wouldn't have to worry about the riff-raff that might congregate or otherwise misuse the park as compared to some of the other locations mentioned which are "hidden away".

All great suggestions. However, the property across from Stony Creek Park is out of the question, as it is the future site of the Andale Green condo development.
The old train depot at Broad and Vine is great, but it's not borough-owned.
The borough would prefer to use a place that they own and that already has infrastructure in place (parking, etc.)
Keep the discussion going!

Moyers Rd......... with football , baseball, softball etc....... there is enough congestion. Make better use of something like the old train station. Its a smart choice.
