Patch is monitoring reports of numerous power outages in the North Penn area at this hour.

A map of the reports can be found above.

A PECO spokesperson told Patch that about 2,200 customers in the area are affected.

Crews are said to be in the vicinity searching for the cause of the outage, but the utility could not confirm that it was related to reports of a blown transformer along Knapp Road.

Breaking News Network reports that FDMT Chief Bill Wiegman reports a major power surge in the entire Montgomeryville area. There are numerous businesses with electrical fires, according to reports.

FDMT has responded to two building fire calls: one at Knapp Road and Bethlehem Pike and a second at Country Club Drive and Route 202/Doylestown Road.

Outage area much bigger than map shows. From driving around, I observed power out from the intersection of Rt 152 & 202 in Chalfont all the way to Rt. 309. A couple of the traffic lights were working but whole neighborhoods and businesses were completely black. It also extended down County Line Rd to Hatfield Ice. And, the stores at Rt 63 in North Wales where Joanne's Fabrics is lost power while I was there.

Ok, did anyone else see the bright flashes near the horizon around 5:45pm? I was at the light at 202 & Welsh Rd., they were toward Lansdale or beyond there. Was this connected?

Pine crest has smoke in the basement from the power surge.. Costco called because they saw smoke coming from their electrical panel... the Metropolitan restaurant then reported smoke as well..we were at both places and PECO arrived to double check COSTCO..but everyone was safe..helicopters were there reporting the news
