Rep. Schwartz to Speak at DNC, Watch on C-SPAN

Rep. Allyson Schwartz' speech will be nationally broadcast.

Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz (D-13) will address the Democratic National Convention tonight, after being selected to the convention's speaker list.

In an e-mail to supporters, Rep. Schwartz said that she will speak during the 7 pm hour. The address will be nationally broadcast live on C-SPAN, and will also be viewable online through c-span.com's live streaming coverage.

Although there is no word on what Rep. Schwartz plans to say, the fourth-term congresswoman is part of a lineup of female politicians that includes minority leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

Schwartz represents voters in Abington, Horsham, Upper Dublin, Lansdale, Montgomery, Springfield, Plymouth, Whitemarsh, Conshohocken, Ambler, Whitpain, Lower Merion, and Upper and Lower Moreland townships as part of the 13th district. She faces a challenge from Republican Joe Rooney this fall.

How about holding a town hall meeting in the 13th?? Even better, how about debating your opponent, Joe Rooney!!!
You won't get away with hiding this election cycle. We will hold you accountable Ms. Schwartz.

WOW, you mean she really exists? Her office sends blast e-mails to constituents, but refuses to respond to the very people they contacted. They "block" your e-mail communications ... it's like getting SPAMMED!

I'm with JOE (above) ... why doesn't Allyson Schwartz come out to address her constituents ... instead of talking to the entire USA?

There is a form on her web page where you can write to her office. It is not unusual for spam filters to block messages from unknown addresses. it is nothing personal. Also, if you do not wish to receive the emails you can easily unsubscribe - There is a link at the bottom of the emails

Wouldn't it be nice if Allyson would consider addressing her constituents - maybe even daring to debate Joe Rooney - instead of hobnobbing with the Democrat elite!?!

Yesterday, I paid $4.09 a gallon for gas, our National Debt just exceeded $16 trillion, we have nearly 4 years of unemployment over 8.2%, unemployment for blacks is 14.4% and unemployment in Phila is over 10%. If I had two minutes on the national stage I think there are more pressing issues to be discussed than scare tactics aimed at seniors about medicare.
I challenge Ms Schwartz to a debate where we discuss Medicare, her votes to cut over $500 billion from Medicare and her support for the IPAB and rationing.

Are you afraid to debate? With you record, you should be.

Respectfully,
Joe Rooney

It is easy to say that things are bad... but what are your solutions to these problems? Anyone can say that they would lower the price of gas, lower the debt and increase jobs, How exactly are you going to cut gases on tax and cut the national debt and still have money to fund programs like those for job creation.

Hello madMAX, first, how about a real name? It is tough to talk seriously with a guy/gal riding around the Australian outback in the back of a pickup wearing animal skins and carrying an axe.
1. I am not saying things are bad. THEY ARE BAD.
2. Admit it, you already know you aren't going to get any solutions from Ms Schwartz although I hope you are asking her this same question. For eight years you haven't gotten an answer to this from her.
3. Government doesn't create jobs, the private sector does. The government needs to create an environment where private business can thrive. That means low, predictable taxes, reasonable regulations and respect for private property.
4. Here are some ideas: Keystone pipeline: approve it and let's get the Canadian Oil into our refineries. Marcellus Shale: we need to develop all of our vast natural resources. This is something we can do today, here in PA and it will generate jobs.
5. Cut the national debt? What a pipe dream, wouldn't that be great? All I want now is an end to mind numbing$trillion deficits, can't we agree on that?

MAX I hope you will agree, regardless of your political affiliation, that debates between candidates are a good thing. Please join with me in calling on Ms Schwartz to appear in a series of debates where all voters can get a good idea of how each candidate will address these pressing issues?

Is Schwartz afraid to debate? You bet she is.

Cheers,
Joe Rooney

I could be wrong on this, so forgive me if I am, but Allyson Schwartz has no REASON to enter into a debate with you Mr. Rooney. If you and her never step foot in the same room she's probably going to beat you in the election by 10-15% of the vote. She has nothing to gain and everything to lose.

I may not agree with her tactic (if anything, I'd LOVE to see a debate because I'd love to hear more on each of your plans) but I can 100% understand why she's seemingly avoiding any sort of confrontation with you in a political spotlight.

I mean, if you go to her website you wouldn't even know she was facing re-election. There's not a single mention of you anywhere. There's no mention of her being in a race. It's all about the Presidential election and getting out the vote in general.

I think she's well aware that the 13th is a VERY Democratic area and she can pretty much stand pat and win.

Sometimes politics is a dirty game (who am I kidding -- MOST of the time it is!), and sometimes it's a game of chess. I think in this case she's guarding her King wisely and just letting you move you pieces all over the board and walking into mistakes.

@Joe,
Thanks for answering my question, you have some very valid points and I would be interested in hearing some of your other thoughts and how they compare to hers but I have to agree with @marc in the fact I didn't even know she had an opponent in her race.

My follow up question to you is if energy sources become unavailable for profit, where would you find the extra money to lower taxes on gases raise employment and lower the debt... what would you cut from the budget to make that happen?

Marc:
Thanks for the unexpected compliment. The only reason she will debate is if enough of the electorate (like you) demand that she stand before her constituents, answer their questions and act like a public servant rather than royalty. I am doing all I can, you have to decide whether you are represented by, or ruled over...

Isn't it funny the Keystone Pipeline ends up in a tax free enterprize zone in texas. So they won't have to pay any taxes on the money they make when they sell the oil they refine into diesel fuel overseas. Why don't we keep the oil we get from alaska instead of selling over 90% of it overseas?
Fracking in Pennsylvania is already poisoning our water and air. What for? Corporate Profit.

I agree, you do seem to be mad Smedley. Have you ever visited a drill site here in PA? Have you ever talked with either the drillers, or the property owners? They are not that far away and I believe it would be well worth your time to visit and learn a bit more about who is doing the drilling, who owns the land and what happens to the gas.
Knowledge is power.

PS Smeds, I made a light reference to madMAX and the 1980's movies, sorry you missed the joke.

Just gotta say, fracking itself does not poison our water. Although it is shady as hell and the drillers are not very good at PR, the studies have mostly said that the process is not dangerous. The poisoning comes in when fracking is not regulated and done correctly so some of the chemicals then get into the drinking water. Just making sure everything is done by the books would ensure everything is safe.

Joe you are right knowledge is power. Going to a fracking site wouldn't do me any good. Have you ever heard Dr. Anthony Ingrassia, a geologist from Cornell University talk about geology and drilling? Check out one of his utube videos. I've met a few people from upstate Pa. that can't drink their water now that gas wells were dug in their area. Did you know once you sign a gas lease you can no longer get a mortgage or insurance on your property?
I don't suppose you saw Josh Fox'x movie Gas Land? Ever hear of Dimock Pa? Their water is poisoned.

Sorry I missed the joke I didn't see the movie.

I support frac(k)ing and support responsible drilling.

That kind of talk is what gets people in trouble. I have looked at the studies. The film you mentioned is infamous for being highly biased and low on facts. Yes I have seen it. However, when you ignore the facts of all of the serious studies, then you are just being as bad as the climate change deniers. There are many things that if are left unregulated and do not go by the books would do great harm.

I never said it is the answer to our energy problems, because it isn't. Renewable energy should be where we are headed. I just made a logical statement based on scientific studies that show the process of fracking does not cause environmental hazard, lack of regulation of the practice does. As long as it is done in a responsible manner, I have no problem with it and neither should you.

Joseph,
Am I ignoring all the serious studies? Where did you see these studies? Send the links so I can see the data. You said,
"I just made a logical statement based on scientific studies that show the process of fracking does not cause environmental hazard."
Are you a god? Some men think they are gods. Can you see 10 or 20 years into the future? How can you declare that drilling holes thousands of feet into the ground, pumping millions of gallons of precious water under thousands of pounds of pressure, along with hundreds of different poisonous chemicals including stuff like Benzine won't poison the water. In many areas it already has.

The studies I read from were featured in the book The Republican Mind by Chris Mooney (I have lent the book out to a friend recently so I do not have the specific studies on hand). These were the only studies I have seen that have been from non-biased sources (also a little common sense would be good from you by realizing that they drill deep beneath the groundwater for fracking, which is the reason why the water does not become poisoned if done in a responsible manner). I'm not sure why you think I have a god complex. In the end we both agree that we should be focusing more on renewable energy, so I don't know why you are insistent on arguing with me.

According to industry, 5% of ALL cement casings that line a fracked well leak IMMEDIATELY, 40% leak in eight years, and 60% in 30 years. Eventually all will leak. The initial problems generally are caused by poor installation. However, even if everything is done perfectly while drilling, the steel rusts, expands and cracks the cement. Earth movements also crack the cement. Click on this link and scroll down to see the graph reprinted from a Schlumberger paper discussing cement casing failure:

I agree Clean Renewable Energy is where we should be heading. In the U.S. we waste 50% to 90% of the energy we generate. Many countries are going renewable. Greed is keeping the U.S. stuck on Fossil Fuel. We will be left behind.
I personally don't need the gas. I used the money I could have spent on gas or oil and bought energy efficient products, windows, insulation, and weatherstripping for our home. Now with about a cord of wood I use less than 1/2 tank of oil per year.
(119 gallons last year) Our electric bill for our 1800 sq. ft. house averages $30.00 to 40.00 in the winter and 50.00 to 60.00 in the summer. I have 2 solar hot water collectors on my roof and a storage tank in the basement. They are provide 100% of my hot water needs. (No need for Gas) The breaker to my electric water heater has been off for 14 months. In the end the thing I like the most is I don't have to pay any taxes on the energy I don't use or the clean renewable energy I collect. Check your energy bills, the same can't be said for gas. Or coal, oil, and nuclear.
