Armed Robbers Hit Main Street Shop in Lansdale

Two men reportedly escaped on foot with cash.

Police thronged downtown Lansdale on Monday evening following the reported armed robbery of a Main Street convenience store.

According to sources, two men armed with a gun held up the Famous Grocery & Convenience Store at 21 W. Main St. The men took an undisclosed amount of cash from the store clerk, who was believed to also be the owner of the store.

A source with knowledge of the investigation said that the suspects fled the scene on foot.

Initial reports described the suspects as two white males. A more detailed description of the suspects was not immediately available.

In the minutes following the robbery, two Lansdale police officers could be seen interviewing the clerk and erecting crime scene tape around the store's cash register area.

A detective was later seen examining the interior of the store, which was open at the time of the incident.

At least five police cruisers from multiple police departments were seen patrolling the neighborhoods in the vicinity of the store, and a K-9 unit from Whitemarsh Township went from door to door on Second Street. Police were seen interviewing some residents in the area.

Patch correspondent Keith Heffintrayer contributed to this story with reporting from the scene.
