Reptile Show Slithers into Hatfield

The Eastern Herpetological Expo, sponsored by Reptile Kingdom, brought out reptiles of all shapes, sizes and colors to the BucksMont Indoor Sports Center Saturday.

Snakes, lizards, monitor lizards, snapping turtles, chameleons and more were the awe of young and old alike at the Eastern Herpetological Expo—or Reptilrama—at the BucksMont Indoor Sports Center on North Penn Road in Hatfield Township Saturday.

The expo has its roots in the Sellersville and Perkasie area, and was well known for years in the Pottstown area until 2005, according to its website.

Now, it slithered its way back into the area this past weekend.

The event featured many reptiles for sale, but others were merely for display.

One fascinating reptile at the show was an Alligator snapping turtle. There was also an alligator named Alf, aged 17, courtesy of Dale Mechalas, owner of The Archive Books and Collectibles in Lansdale.

Vendors included, to name a few, RhacHouse, which specializes in gargoyle geckos, The Caged Dragon, specializing in ball pythons and bearded dragons, and Exo Terra.

There were also raffles with the winners being Sterling Mason, of Wilmington, DE (2-year subscription to Reptiles Magazine and more); Jon Sweeney of Norristown (ExoTerra terrarium) and Robert Vanney of Linwood, PA (Laguna pond set).

The next expo is set for September 21.
