Man Arrested Following Morning Standoff in Hatfield

Nearby residents evacuated after police surround unit in Line Street apartment complex

A Hatfield man was arrested late Friday morning following a standoff at on Line Street.

Tarone Marquis Jordan, 36, was taken into custody at about 11:25 a.m. after Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies attempted to serve him with a warrant at 7:45 a.m. Friday.

"They requested (Hatfield Township Police) assistance after 8 a.m. to serve a warrant on (him)," said Officer Pat Hanrahan of Hatfield Township Police.

Jordan had failed to make a court appearance following charges on Nov. 28 in Montgomery Township of being involved in an accident involving injury or death while not being properly licensed.

Hanrahan said Jordan had a county probation violation, along with an adult bench warrant.

Hatfield Police established a perimeter around a section of the apartment complex on the unit block of Windsor Court while the North Penn Tactical Response Team staged at

Jordan failed to respond to numerous requests made with a bullhorn to emerge from the apartment, said Hanrahan. The tactical team also attempted to negotiate with Jordan via cell phone.

Police said an occupant of the home exited and confirmed the Jordan was still inside the home.

A female, who did not wish to identify herself, was at the scene, wrapped in a blanket due to the morning cold.

She said she was in the apartment with Jordan Friday morning when the sheriff's department served the warrant.

She said Jordan did have warrants against him, and she had "heard a few different stories about him," as far as what he was wanted for in the county.

"From what I understood," she said, "he's wanted for something crazy."

The woman identified Jordan as "Ty."

According to a press release, Jordan was aware that he was wanted and had a criminal history, which included crimes of violence.

According to county radio reports, police later entered the apartment and used a remote camera to locate Jordan in a second floor bedroom, where he was seen talking on a cell phone and smoking a cigarette while sitting in a closet.

He was taken into custody a short time later.

Officer Pat Hanrahan of the Hatfield Police Department said officers were searching the apartment for weapons but had not found any as of about 11:45 a.m.

According to the criminal docket of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas, Jordan was arrested Oct. 15 in Montgomery Township, and charged Nov. 28 with misdemeanor counts of Accidents Involving Death or Injury – Not Property Licensed, and Accidents Involving Damage to Attended Vehicle or Property. He was also charged with Summary counts of Backing Up a Vehicle Improperly and Driving While Operating Privileges were Suspended or Revoked.

Jordan has a Jan. 4, 2012 arraignment on these charges at 9:30 a.m. in county court.

The docket indicated Jordan was not present at the Nov. 21 disposition and Nov. 22 preliminary hearing.

A bench warrant was requested Dec. 1, and issued Dec. 8

Jordan was arrested July 6, 2003 for four offenses that occurred June 11, 2002 in Abington Township.

According to the criminal docket, Jordan was charged with a felony count of Receiving Stolen Property and a felony count of Forgery, and a misdemeanor count of theft by unlawful taking and bad checks.

Bail was set July 14, 2003 at $2,000.

The theft charge was dismissed Sept. 11, 2003 pre-trial, and the forgery and bad checks charges were also dismissed. Jordan pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property and was sentenced to 29 days in prison.

A bench warrant was served on June 18, 2008, and a warrant was revoked on July 15, 2008. A probation violation was issued Nov. 7, 2011.

Jordan was arrested a third time Jan. 26, 2002 and charged with stealing a car, receiving stolen property and driving without a license. He posted $2,500 bail on Feb. 6, 2002.

Jordan pleaded guilty to stealing a vehicle on May 13, 2002. The other charges were dropped. He was put on two-year probation.

Update 11:01am: A county radio report indicated that police are inside the apartment and attempting to negotiate with the man, who is believed to be in an upstairs bedroom.

Hatfield Police have evacuated some units of an apartment complex on Line Street as they deal with an unidentified subject who is reportedly barricaded inside one of the units. The Montgomery County SWAT team is staging nearby.

County radio reports indicated that as of about 10:20am, police had established a perimeter but had not yet successfully made contact with the man inside one of the Brookside Manor Apartments.

Further county radio reports indicated that the subject has a criminal history that includes firearms violations. A K-9 unit is reportedly on scene.

A reporter with the Lansdale Reporter said via Twitter that according to Hatfield Police, a subject has barricaded himself in one of the apartments after an attempted warrant service.
