Three Nabbed in Morgan Log House Burglary
Matthew Copenhaver, 21; Kevin Himes, 22; and Heather Spotts, 19 were arrested and charged with allegedly burglarizing the historic Towamencin property and resisting arrest
Two men and a teenage girl were arrested by Towamencin Police for allegedly burgarlizing Morgan Log House on Weikel Road.
The three following residents were charged with felony burglary, felony criminal conspiracy, felony criminal trespass — breaking into a structure, loitering and resisting arrest:
- Matthew Warren Copenhaver, 21, of the 1200 block of Columbia Avenue, Towamencin
- Kevin Daniel Himes, 22, of the 1200 block of Stonybrook Lane, Towamencin
- Heather Rose Spotts, 19, of the 900 block of West Sixth Street, Lansdale
All three were arraigned Nov. 3 before District Judge Maurice Saylor of Gilbertsville and each were taken to Montgomery County prison in lieu of $50,000 cash bail, according to court records.
All three remain incarcerated at Montgomery County prison, according to prison records.
A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. before District Judge Harold Borek in Lansdale.
Of the three, Himes is the only one with a prior criminal history with convictions at the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas level.
Himes previously pleaded guilty in February 2011 to giving a false name to Hatfield Township Police and possessing drug paraphernalia, and was sentenced to a maximum of one year probation plus community service, according to court records.
Himes also pleaded guilty to DUI in Towamencin Township and was sentenced to a maximum of six months in prison, according to court records.
Spotts has a preliminary hearing set for Jan. 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. before District Judge Kenneth Deatelhauser in Souderton for misdemeanor DUI and drug possession charges from Hatfield Township in October, according to court records.
Towamencin Police were dispatched to the historically-preserved property at around 7:16 p.m. Nov. 3 after a resident saw three people breaking into the home through a rear window, police said.
Prior to police arrival, the three reportedly fled and got into a white vehicle, police said.
When police arrived, the vehicle was gone. The rear window to Morgan Log House was pushed in, allowing entry, and the intrusion alarm was activated, police said.
A witness reported seeing the white vehicle driving backwards on Stonybrook Lane, police said.
Police searched the area and found the suspect vehicle on Pickwick Lane, police said.
The search continued for the suspects, and they were eventually found behind a home on Conestoga Lane, police said.
The three allegedly fled from police, resulting in a foot chase, police said.
They were all taken into custody in the 1200 block of Stonybrook Lane, police said.
All three allegedly resisted arrest and had to be restrained by multiple officers, police said.
Towamencin Police were assisted by Lansdale Borough and Upper Gwynedd Township Police.

Nah, I choose to negatively judge users of recreational drugs, especially when they trespass on historically preserved property then run from police.

bullshit!!!!! there is nothing wrong with sleepy in some shitty old house that nobody fucking cares about! And the way they wrote this fucking article is so misleading , calling it a burglary (burglary -the act of entering a building or other places with the intent to commit theft) wtf are they going to steal a shity old chair.

I care about that house. It has historic significance. There is nothing "shitty" about a chair that has existed for over one hundred years. It holds more value than your short life, that I can assure you.

hey everyone i wish this was not such a hot topic. there was no intentions on stealing or disrupting the community. what happened to innocent until proven guilty? anyways nobody gave time for even an apology. if you are a caretaker of the Morgan Log House i give you my remorse and pray there is no damage done. my apologizes are to everyone that has been effected by this. i started writing a letter i hope to share at my hearing, for those who will not be there my apologizes go out to the arresting officers, towamencin community, the local residents, morgan log house owners and care team. and of course my friends and caring family.

Wish I was there... Hearing and reading what happen sounds like a bad joke. This would of never happen to my friends if I was there. Still they were never caught in the log house, so nobody really knows for sure who burglarized the building unless any of them want to confess to it. And honestly what would they steal if they did burglarize the building? Fire wood? Just because you run from the police doesnt prove that you did anything wrong. Except avoiding police contact. But who wants to deal with the police? You will be concidered a suspect to a crime, wether you did it or not. All I can say is I have a lot of questions and thanks for the info lansdale patch.
