Gov. Mitt Romney said during the presidential debate that although he likes Big Bird, he is planning on cutting subsidies to PBS.
That comment came during the beginning of the debate. By the end of the debate, Twitter was buzzing. "Big Bird" was trending. @BigBirdRomney was created and had more than 6,000 followers.
Many images made their way onto Twitter, including one with Big Bird holding a sign says "Will Work For Food."
What do you think about funding for PBS? Should the federal government subsidize it? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I have to agree that it is not worth borrowing money from China to fund PBS. Big Bird will survive through private funding.

Hey Lucy, Why not include the entire comment in your tweet? Yes, Gov Romney did say he would stop funding PBS and Big Bird. You left out the REASON. If money to fund (give to) programs has to be BORROWED***** from whomever in this case is China, which adds to the US national debt, why continue to dole out $$$. PBS does survive through private funding as stated above, hence their fund drives. The Govt needs to reduce its debt. I hate when facts are omitted just to get readers. Your question should have been, What do you think about Govt. subsidies being discontinued since the Govt borrowers the $$$ from China to do so?

if they want to save big bird, why not cut out of the antagonistic and useless UN? we give them 25% of their budget which we have to borrow from China who only pays 1%. All this stupid spending must come to an end or WE will

PBS at .12% of the deficit is the least of our worries. Shall we review? Corporate tax exemptions, unfunded wars, Romney being taxed at 13% and sheltering his money off shore, shall I go on and on and on? Dog whistle.

Yes, I beleive that Big Bird should be on a diet--look at him, he has a large belly---the kind that health experts say is detrimental and a risk factor for a heart attack. Michelle Obama should be all over Big Bird, should make sure he goes on the Healthy Diet Program she dictates. He should be much a much leaner example for our precious children-----Cut off his chicken nuggets, and cut PBS off from the gubmint feeding-----Big Bird is offensive to me! (dont get me started on Cookie Monster--or Oscar the Grouch--I think he has emotional problems ) I declare war on them all---bunch of miscreats. Maybe all the wealthy corporate sponsors can pay MORE of their fair share, or better yet, take some of the money from the UN and redristribute it to the poor poor starving PBS characters.. I dont want to give my hard earned dollars to them anymore. I think the libs should invent a new character---the STRAW MAN man, yes he can!!

I like the idea of our Federal Government helping to produce free content for people.

Funding of PBS would certainly be cheaper than funding all the military actions we are involved in, which are paid for with loans from China. A much more worthy way to spend money. To educate young children and expose them to the arts. YES!

IF Romney does decide to sell PBS, I am sure there are lots of buyers for this network. WE CANNOT KEEP BORROWING FROM CHINA TO SATISFY OURSELVES! We've hit the limit!
