LIVE SIMPLY, ENJOY MORE
In our world today there is no shortage of activities that have actually worked to decrease my quality and enjoyment in life. With access to the web at my fingertips 24-7, television shows battling for my undivided attention, friends and associates planning nights out, e-mails, workouts and lets not forget family commitments, the ability to live simply can be elusive.
However, I have created a few simple disciplines that have led me to enjoy life, and live simply.
1. Eliminate Toxic People
Perhaps one of they greatest things I have done to increase my overall enjoyment in life is the elimination of toxic people. If you are a walking ball of gossip, drama and negativity--good bye. I don’t care if I’ve known you for 20 years or 20 minutes. I don’t want you and your toxicity around me. I will avoid you like the plague.
2. Remove Clutter
I had the great pleasure of spending my weekend eliminating over 40 bags of trash from my home, and I don’t mean that I was leaving pizza boxes and drink containers around the house until they became piled to the ceiling. What I did was eliminate everything that wasn’t used by my wife or children in the past 6 months. It’s amazing how much better you feel after purging your home of unnecessary and unused items. Donate them to a good cause.
Be organized, have a place for everything and keep everything in it’s place. Make a list of things that need to be done and do it. Don’t have clutter strewn throughout your home.
Have a plan of action for each day. This takes a small amount of discipline, but will have tremendous benefits. Plan your day, week and month. Infact plan your life. Have goals. If you go on vacation, you plan for it. Why aren’t you planning your life.
5. Ditch the Nightly News
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again--don’t watch the news. It’s a horror of epic proportions.
Do you really need to know about the latest fire, murder, rape, government meltdown, celebrity gossip or whatever else your local media outlet deems necessary for your viewing?
The curse and savior of the smart phone is the ability to filter news that is relevant to me, and to be honest, if it doesn’t directly effect me, I don’t care to hear about it.
Live simply. It sounds easy enough, but in our hurry up and go, I need it now society, a life of simplicity can quickly be lost.
Live Simply, enjoy more
