 ran&ccedil\;oise Gilot focuses on the evolution of  Gilot&rsquo\;s appro
 ach to composition and color  beginning with her semi&shy\;nal Labyrinth
   Series and including key works  into the 21st century. Rich abstractio
 n in a  bold\, powerful palette\, a  mainstay of her work\, transitions 
 to references to the  figure\,  botanicals and still life. Iconic images
  such as orbs\, birds\, water and   earth elements are investigated in t
 andem with color juxtapositions  that are  built up from layers and laye
 rs of pigment. The exhibition  runs from June 1  through Sept. 23. An il
 lustrated  lecture by curator Mel Yoakum\, Ph.D.\, will be  presented Se
 pt. 20 at 3 p.m.\nThe exhibition is curated by Mel  Yoakum\, Ph.D.\, aut
 hor of Stone Echoes: Original Prints by  Fran&ccedil\;oise Gilot and  a 
 scholar of her work. He began his association with  Gilot in 1987\,  org
 anizing exhibitions and cataloguing her extensive oeuvre of  oil  painti
 ngs and works on paper. He has authored numerous essays and  catalogues 
  for the artist and he also serves on the Board of Directors  of the Ber
 man Museum  of Art.\nThe Philip and Muriel  Berman Museum of Art at Ursi
 nus  College is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, Tuesday through  Friday\, and n
 oon to  4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Museum is closed  Mondays 
  and college holidays. The Museum is accessible to the physically   disa
 bled\, and admission is free. The Museum is accredited by the  American 
  Association of Museums. Exhibitions and programs are funded in  part by
  a grant  from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and annual  support 
 from Epps  Advertising.
