Cochlear Implant Gives MontCo Woman Gift of Hearing

Three weeks ago Campbell underwent cochlear implant surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. After several tweaks to the implant, it was permanently turned on during Tuesday's live airing of the Today Show.

"I'm hearing you. I'm hearing you."

Those were the first words spoken by 57-year-old Sarah Campbell, of Norristown, after her cochlear implant was turned on during the Today Show on Tuesday morning.
Campbell, a special education teacher and proud grandmother, had been hearing impaired for her whole life, according to NBCNews.com. Through the use of lip reading and hearing aids, she was still able to communicate, but as an adult Campbell's hearing worsened and the hearing aids no longer worked, according to the report.

Surrounded by family, and with the help of her doctors, Campbell responded to questions and smiled as she heard her granddaughter cry for the first time.
