The commission's Northeast Extension widening project for seven miles of I-476 between Lansdale and Quakertown is still in the preliminary design stage, but the bridgework is being completed now in anticipation of the project.

Construction to replace the bridge that carries Ridge Road over I-476 is expected to begin early 2014.

A detour of Fretz Road was implemented April 26 in order to remove and replace the structure in one construction season, according to the commission.

Some construction-related activities will continue in the vicinity of the bridge with minimal impact to local traffic on Fretz Road.

Motorists traveling northbound and southbound on the Turnpike should continue to stay alert for slow-moving traffic and single-lane closures weekdays between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. in the work area near the overhead bridge.
