Knights For Life Horseshoes Fundraiser Draws 100-Plus
The nonprofit group, formed by North Penn High alumni, raises funds to support individuals and families facing profound loss or a crisis
The Knights For Life Horseshoe Tournament fundraiser Sunday afternoon was a success, bringing out more than 100 people who got behind the nonprofit's mission of distributing funds for individuals and families facing a crisis or loss.
The nonprofit was started by North Penn High School alumni. According to Jennifer Lawson of The Reporter in Lansdale, the group began around 2009 when co-founder Steve Melchior's brother, Chris, succumbed to colon cancer at 46.
Melchior told Lawson the group was also influenced by the death of the 1985 North Penn grad's close friend, Mike Saks.

Saks succumbed to a brain tumor in January of this year.
According to Lawson, the horseshoe tournament was the group's second event. A wiffle ball competition was the inaugural fundraiser in May.

On Sunday, Knights for Life will spread awareness and collect donations at the Oct. 12 North Penn—Hatboro-Horsham football game, according to Lawson.
