Lansdale Ranked Fifth Best Town for Young Families: Report

NerdWallet.com, a consumer advocacy website, has analyzed national and statewide data to determine the best places in Pennsylvania for raising a family. Lansdale's ranking was based on public schools data, economic growth and more.

Young families looking to settle down in Pennsylvania should look no further than Lansdale Borough.
The borough was ranked fifth best town for young families in the state, based on national and statewide data compiled and analyzed by NerdWallet.com, a consumer advocacy website.
According to Laura Zulliger of NerdWallet, Lansdale ranked high on the list that evaluated five factors: public schools ratings, median home value, economic growth, ongoing cost of home ownership, median home value and median income.
School information was culled from GreatSchools academic performance ratings, which took a comparison of a given school's standardized test scores to the state average, on a 1-10 scale.
Per its report, North Penn High School was lauded for its 95 percent graduation rate and its 89 percent higher education rate. NerdWallet gave Lansdale a 9/10 ranking for schools.
Median home values analyzed monthly home costs, like mortgages, real estate taxes, insurances, fuel bills and more, using 2011 U.S. Census data. Lansdale's median home value is $231,200, per NerdWallet, and has a median household income of $57,875.
A town like Lansdale's economic growth was determined via average household income and income growth over the past 10 years. NerdWallet estimated Lansdale's economic growth between 1999 and 2011 at 25.2 percent.
Topping Lansdale were Jefferson Hills, Greensburg, Phoenixville and Broomall.
