Local Residents React to bin Laden's Death

Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch scoured bars, 24-hour retail stores and convenience stores between midnight and 3 a.m. to gauge how people felt about bin Laden's death.

Within an hour of the announcement of the death of Osama bin Laden, Montgomeryville-Lansdale Patch went out to gauge local reaction from people at , Montella’s Pub, at Allentown and Forty Foot roads, on Forty Foot Road, on Route 309 in Colmar, on Allentown Road and at Cannon Avenue and Main Street.

Reaction was mixed, with some reveling in the victory of the United States and demanding we bring home our troops.

One resident had a total opposite reaction.

“Honestly, I couldn’t care less,” said Keith Hender, of Hatfield. “It never really bothered me in the first place. I’ve lived in this country all my life, but in the general consensus of the world, which I happen to agree with, the United States kind of sucks. I’d prefer to live almost anywhere else in the world, as long as it’s not here.”

Jessica Hedrick, of Lansdale, couldn’t believe it’s taken as long as it has.

“It also seems like Obama is taking too much credit for it,” she said.

Anthony Santiago, of Lansdale, thought the news was great.

“What I’d like to know is are our troops coming home tomorrow? I guess this is ‘Mission Accomplished,’” he said.

Jessica Green, of Lansdale, said it’s about time.

“Had it happened three years ago, I would have been happy. Now, I’m just glad it’s over,” she said.

Dale, of Lansdale, was happy to hear he was dead.

“I want to thank the military, first and foremost,” he said.

Nick, of Harleysville, wondered who would be next in line.

“As soon as I heard he was dead, I wondered who would be next in line?” he said. “My initial thought was ‘It only took them 10 years.’”

Kirk Muha, of Lansdale, thinks it’s time to end the war.

“Maybe we can stop the wars and bring the troops home,” he said.

Kendall Brown, of North Wales, said bin Laden had slipped her memory.

“I had kind of forgot about him, but I was relieved to hear that he was dead,” she said.

Hatfield resident Andrew, was very happy to hear the news.

“I’m so happy that piece of (expletive) is rotting in hell,” he said.

Justin Adams, of Lansdale, said the news brought a smile to his face.

Eric Roth, of Lansdale, felt for the victims of 9/11.

“I hope that they can now find some peace,” he said.

Greg, of Lansdale, thought someone else will probably step up to take bin Laden’s place.

“It’s great,” he said of bin Laden’s death, “and he got what he deserved, but it could go either way.”

Heather Worthington, of Lansdale, believed the nation can finally exhale.

“It’s a relief for our country, and for everyone who has been risking their lives,” she said.

Mohammed, of Lansdale, was happy bin Laden was killed.

“He killed a lot of people,” he said. “He’s not a Muslim leader. I felt good when I heard he was dead.”

Rafael Cano, of New York City, said he got chills of happiness.

“Considering the amount of chaos he has caused in the world, hearing of his death brought a tremendous relief. God bless America!”

K so....Bin Laden is dead.....doesn't mean that terrorism is over...no need to become complacent and let our gaurd down. Just like any leader, there is always someone being trained to take over the reigns.

Let anyone like Keith Hender, of Hatfield know that trains, busses, boats and planes leave almost hourly to take you to these other countries where life will be so much greater than here. I am also sure, that your opinion my change as soon as you move to these other countries and look for the freedom and protection you get here. I will give you $20 toward a greyhound or gas to get you out of the US as fast as you can, so you can start this great life!
