New Hatfield Borough 4-Way Stop Surprising Commuters

Hatfield Borough Council implemented the stop signs earlier this summer to help improve commercial use near the intersection.

There was a familiar sound at the intersection of Market Street, Broad Street and Lincoln Avenue Sunday afternoon—skidding tires.

It was a bit more dangerous since the roadway was wet from a recent evening rain, but, for a 15-minute period, no one ran the four-way intersection in front of Woodburner’s.

Hatfield Borough now has a new four-way stop at the junction, and some commuters are getting used to it, as evidenced by comments on the Lansdale Patch Facebook page.

The new traffic safety initiative was voted by Hatfield Borough Council in December 2012.

According to The Reporter, Caren Segal, of Worcester, was the catalyst for implementing the stop signs, as she is opening a sweet shop at the former used car site at 8 N. Market St.

Hatfield Borough Manager Mike DeFinis told The Reporter the stop signs will make commercial use at the intersection safer and better.
