Let's raise a glass for Prism Beer and Becker's Corner.
Upper Gwynedd brewery Prism Brewing Co. partnered with Becker's Corner in Quakertown Wednesday night for a "Chemosabe" fundraiser for Matthew Knoebel, 13, in his leukemia fight.
Chemosabe (ABV: 8.5 percent; IBUs: 67) is Prism's new brew—a big black wheat beer with a hint of wasabi.
Chemosabe's creation was inspired by a little girl's fight with cancer.
Gabriella "Gabby" Vogel, of Phoenixville, died at five years of age from a brain tumor in 2011. She was diagnosed with Diffuse Intra Pontine Glioma (DIPG).
In her memory, the Get Well Gabby Foundation was formed to fight for a cure for childhood cancer.
Prism Brewery owner Rob DeMaria wanted to raise money to help Gabby and her family. In 2011, the taproom sold 12-ounce glasses of Chemosabe and donating $2 a glass to the family. All growler fills had a $10 extra charge, which went to Gabby and her family.
DeMaria kept Chemosabe going and the mission to raise money for local families fighting cancer.
In 2012, Prism did it again, this time for a local girl named Callie. Callie was chosen via a Facebook callout.
Knoebel was the recipient for the 2013 Chemosabe effort, but this time, there was help from Becker's Corner.
The Quakertown bar matched every $10 per person cover charge Wednesday night. For $10, entrants received a glass of Chemosabe, a raffle ticket, taco bar and a surprise item.
All in all, the fundraiser raised $1,560 for Knoebel and his family.
Raffle basket tickets are still available at Prism or Becker's Corner through May. Each ticket is $1. The raffle basket includes gift certificates to Prism, Becker's Corner, Shell.Fish.Sue, Interstate Draft House, and Tex Mex Connection; two VIP tickets for Lansdale Beer Fest June 22; swag from Prism, Becker's Corner, and Interstate Draft House; and sports memorabilia signed by Vince Papale, Bob "The Hound" Kelly and Freddie Adu.
Donations still be accepted for the basket. Winner revealed June 1.
Prism and Becker's Corner also have 2013 limited edition Chemosabe stickets with Knoebel's name on it for purchase for $3.
Donations to the Knoebel family can be dropped off at Prism Brewery or Becker's Corner. Checks should be made out to "Matthew Knoebel."
"We're really trying to kick this off big and do whatever we can for this family," said Prism Brewery spokeswoman Heather Rheaume.
Prism Beer is at 810 Dickerson Road, Upper Gwynedd (North Wales in GPS).
