Robert A. “Bob” Di Domizio, Sr., 78, of Lansdale, passed away December 18, 2011 at his residence.  He was the beloved husband of Mary Rose (Bethell) Di Domizio, his wife of 56 years.  The two met each other in Fort Worth, Texas where Bob was stationed at Carswell AFB.

Born February 12, 1933 on West 5th Street in Lansdale, he was a son of the late Dionino & Adeline Maria (Maiorano) Di Domizio.

Mr. Di Domizio graduated from Lansdale High School with the Class of 1951.  Shortly after graduating, Bob, along with three childhood friends, enlisted in the US Air Force during the height of the Korean War.  He served with the 11th Bomb Wing, 8th Air Force, Strategic Air Command as an aircraft mechanic and crew chief on the B-36 Heavy Bomber.  SAC’s General, John D. Ryan, presented him with the “Outstanding Airman Award” in 1955.

A mechanic by trade, he worked for more than 33 years for Precision Rebuilding Corp., working his way up to be president of the company.  He then worked for Parker-Hannifin, Precision Division, as Chief Operating Officer until his retirement in 1995.  Both companies remanufactured metalworking machinery. 

Bob was a member of the Italian War Veterans, Shiloh Lodge #558 F&AM, Priscilla Chapter #64 OES, LSF #413 Sons of Italy in America, American Legion Post #206, PA & Montgomery County Tax Collectors Association, Society of the Strategic Air Command, 8th USAF Historical Society, Lansdale Historical Society and the Peak Center.  He was also a member of the Lansdale Republican Committee for over 30 years.

He was an avid hunter, enjoyed the outdoors, and loved to spend time in the Pocono Mountains with his wife, sons, and their families.  Bob and Mary made two trips to Italy and enjoyed their stay abroad with family and distant relatives.  He had a deep passion for genealogy and spent countless hours researching the lineages of his family, his wife’s family, and those of several close friends.

Mr. Di Domizio spent many years serving the residents of Lansdale as a Cub and Boy Scout Leader, Little League Coach, Vice-President of North Penn School Board, Vice-President of Lansdale Borough Council, and Chairman of the Lansdale Zoning Hearing Board.  He had served thirteen years as Lansdale’s Tax Collector.  On November 3, 2009, he was re-elected to a fourth term.

Having been given the gift of mechanical ability, he completed many tasks over his lifetime including carpentry, electrical wiring, plumbing, car repair, planning, building, surveying, and general handyman work for others.  He always answered the call when asked, no matter the sacrifice to himself or his plans.  Whenever faced with adversity, be it family or friends, Bob would always take the higher path and strive for peace.

Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife, are four sons, Robert Jr., and his wife Diane; Frank, and his wife Renee; Richard, and his wife Christine; and Curtis, and his wife Tina. 

Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Robert “Tony” III, and his fiancée Elizabeth; Gina, and her husband Derek; Sarah, Vincent, Michael, Nicolas, Danielle, Gabriella, Heather, Hunter and Dylan; a great-granddaughter, Raeya; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Marie; a sister, Ida Rachael Di Domizio; and two brothers, Silvino R. & Frank P. Di Domizio.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday, December 21, 2011 between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. at , 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, December 22 at , 51 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale.  Interment will follow in Lansdale Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the North Penn Visiting Nurse Association Hospice/Home Care, 51 Medical Campus Drive, Lansdale, PA 19446.
