Mother Goose Daycare, LLC is Lansdale's Business of the Month

Mother Goose has been at 11 Oakland Avenue since the mid-1960s.

Discover Lansdale president, council Vice President, Economic Development Committee chairwoman, former newspaper layout editor, waitress—Lansdale's Mary Fuller loves to stay busy.
In fact, she has always been that way, ever since she was a little girl growing up in Lansdale.
"I'm highly active, and I wasn't any different as a kid. I was the third of four children in my family. When my poor parents got to me, and all the things I liked to participate in, they didn't know what to do with me because I was so active," she said.
So, Fuller's mother looked around for some education for her daughter, prior to entering kindergarten. There were not many schools available at the time, but she had to look no further than 11 Oakland Avenue and Mother Goose Daycare, LLC.
"It was one of the first accredited schools available. She went to the school and promptly enrolled me," Fuller said.
Thus, as part of an initiative for each Economic Development Committee member to take a turn each month presenting a Business of the Month, Fuller looked no further Monday night than her old alma mater.
"When it was my turn ... I was thinking about who I would want to highlight. We're all pretty familiar with the businesses up and down Main Street. My goal was to highlight somebody that's been around for a long time, but that people may not be aware of," Fuller said.
Mother Goose Daycare, she said, is now run by Lisa Kurek, a former direct mail marketer and mother of four. It was built at its original location nearly 50 years ago.
"I can attest to that," Fuller said. "I would go there a couple afternoons a week and got out in enough time to watch the original 'Dark Shadows,'" she said.
Kurek is the third owner of the business, which was founded by Geri Nelson, taking over in 2004.
"They provide full- and part-time care for children six weeks to five years old," Fuller said. "Its purpose is to provide your child with a 'home-away-from-home' atmosphere, encouraging social, physical, emotional and intellectual growth and development of a child as a whole."
Fuller said that Kurek, being a mother of four, understands the varying needs of children and parents and thus began a daybreak drop-off at Mother Goose for stay-at-home moms that may need a break and run errands through the course of the day and can drop their children off at the daycare.
There are 20 women who work at Mother Goose, almost all of them mothers, Fuller said.
"There is a foster grandparent program with two grandmothers," she said. "There is an infant room that gives babies extra nurturing. And all staff are First Aid and CPR-certified and trained."
Mother Goose is a member of the Delaware Valley Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
"It offers a multi-faceted curriculum. Most of the curriculum builds foundational skills in early literacy, art, math, music and science," Fuller said. "It offers music and Spanish enrichment, yoga, gymnastics and sports."
Furthermore, Mother Goose LLC has a summer camp program that involves themes and special guests, like pony rides, a water ice truck visit, moon bounce and traveling farms.
