When I talk to people about hosting, the first question they ask me is, "What exactly is a host-family – why do the students need one?" That is followed by, "What do I have to do?" But maybe the most important question is, “Why should I want to host?”
I am looking for families for the international students to live with while they are attending school in the United States. Students will be considered a member of your family. The host-family will, of course, provide room and board, but please don't think the students are merely renting your room. Your student will be part of your family. They will join your family activities, join in the chores, follow your house rules -- just like your own children.
Why do you want to host an international student? The most important benefit is cultural exchange. The most important benefit is cultural exchange: to open your home, your heart and your horizons.
