Lansdale Council Member Needs 500 Votes in State Senate Write-In Campaign

Lansdale Borough Council member Jack Hansen is looking to challenge incumbent Republican state Senator Bob Mensch in November. But first he needs 500 people to write him in on the ballot on May 20.

“After receiving encouragement from friends and supporters in the local community, Jack has accepted the challenge of being a write-in candidate. He needs to receive at least 500 write-in votes from registered Democrats during the Primary Election on May 20, 2014, to get his name on the ballot for the November election,” Hansen said on his campaign website.

Hansen is looking to challenge Mensch to represent the 24th senatorial district, which includes portions of Montgomery, Bucks and Berks counties.

Hansen has served as a Lansdale councilman since 2007. He has been a member of the Lansdale Democratic Committee since 1988 and currently serves as the Committee Chairman, according to his bio.

He also serves on the Montgomery County Democrats Executive Committee and on the North Penn Democrats Executive committee, his bio states.

Hansen, a Vietnam War veteran, is married and has two children and two grandchildren, according to his bio. He is retired after 27 years of service from Mirabile Beverage Company. He also owned his own painting business for 22 years, his bio states.

According to a report by the Intelligencer, Hansen decided to run for the seat after it was too late to have his name officially listed on the primary ballot.
