Meet the Lansdale Council Ward 2 Democratic Candidate

Sherry Sikora faces Republican Tom Work for the one open seat on council. Incumbent Republican Mike Sobel was usurped from his seat in the Primary.

After usurping incumbent Republican Mike Sobel in the Primary, Ward Two Republican candidate Tom Work was a shoe-in for the seat on Lansdale Borough Council.
Then, the Lansdale Democrats put up retired nurse and mental health and mental illness advocate Sherry Sikora for the one open seat up for grabs Tuesday.

Sikora, 53 and a married mother and grandmother, has lived in Lansdale for 30 years. She has experience advocating for persons with mental illnesses in Washington, D.C. and Harrisburg.
Sikora wanted to run for borough council because she wants to take her passion of advocacy to a public arena.
"I was ready to take on a new challenge," Sikora said. "Several years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Patrick Kennedy while I was in Washington, D.C. That meeting and our conversation inspired me to extend my passion of helping others, by becoming a leader, so in that way I could to do all that is possible and to the best of my ability."
Sikora sees the borough hall renovation, the Main Street revitalization and wasteful spending as the three main issues in Lansdale.
"The new borough council would be tasked with blending borough image, building function and efficiency–while keeping our focus on taxes and the avoiding of wasteful spending and supporting an open and honest council government," she said. "Creating an environment that attracts sustainable new businesses, will lead to the cleaning of vacant buildings and attractiveness of our downtown area. As a borough, Lansdale has the opportunity to be a cornerstone for our community. We can do this; while still being open, honest and efficient when it comes to taxes and debt."
Sikora said council meetings should be televised and council expenses should always be reviewed, so as not to hurt taxpayers.
If she wins, Sikora said she will change the actual and perceived borough and council government openness.
"I believe that openness will bolster out accountability to the Lansdale taxpayer, and a more open borough council, will lead to more community people becoming involved," she said. "The borough council is the team that will have been put in place to represent Lansdale residences, and as that team, we need to do that with openness, accessibility, accountability and honesty."
Council, she said, is accountable to the people of Lansdale.
"Honestly, we need to speak for them," she said.
