Meet the Lansdale Council Ward 2 Republican Candidate

Tom Work ousted incumbent Republican Mike Sobel in his bid for the one open seat in Ward Two. Work has a challenge from Democratic candidate Sherry Sikora on Nov. 5.

In the 2013 Primary, Lansdale Parking Authority member Tom Work ousted incumbent Republican Mike Sobel, and thus, Work heads closer to winning a seat in Ward Two on Lansdale Borough Council.
The Merck toxicological scientist is being challenged for the one open seat by Democrat Sherry Sikora.
Work, who spoke out against aspects of development of Madison Parking Lot, is a longtime resident of Lansdale, along with his wife and two children.
Work is a football official in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and Arena Football Leagues. Work graduated from Albright College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. For 20 years, he has worked at Merck, currently as principal scientist in the Toxicological Sciences Department.
"I believe my profile abundantly demonstrates the background and experience that qualifies me to serve on borough council—of particular note, I’m a 20-year resident of the borough, and currently involved with the borough: I’m in my second year of a 4-year term on the Lansdale Parking Authority," Work said.
Work vows to hold the line on taxes and said there is no value to the taxpayer to spend $10 million on a new borough hall.
Work also wants to stop wasted money on 311 Arts and bring the tax collector office back to borough hall.
Work said he wants to employ a "common sense approach" to governing Lansdale, and that includes avoiding large expense projects that are valueless to Lansdale and its people. Work said spending time listening to residents allows council to refocus efforts on the little things that matter.
"I spoke with a resident in the spring who was recovering from surgery on her arm due to a fall on a Borough sidewalk that was in poor condition," Work said. "There are also many folks in the 2-3 District that are very upset on how the current Knapp Road project is being handled–-especially concerning the replacement of sidewalks, curbs, and aprons," he said.
"Simply put: Council should be as cost-conscious and mindful of the Borough’s
checkbook as they are with their own checkbooks," Work said.
Stay tuned for the Lansdale Council Ward Two Democratic Candidate report.
