NewsWorks' Faye Flam to Lecture at Ursinus College: "What I Learned About Science and Religion by Writing an Infamous Sex Column"

In association with Ursinus College’s Center for Science and
the Common Good, Science Writer in Residence Faye Flam will present a lecture
titled “What I Learned About Science and Religion by Writing an Infamous Sex
Column” on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Kaleidoscope Performing Arts
Center’s Lenfest Theater. The event is free and open to the public.

Flam is a science writer for WHYY’s NewsWorks, where she
hosts a blog called Lightning Rod. She is also author of The Score: How the
Quest for Sex Has Shaped the Modern Man, and keeper of Higgs, a physics-loving
cat that writes an online column for Parade magazine. She critiques her fellow
journalists at the Knight Science Journalism Tracker.

Flam earned a degree in geophysics from the California
Institute of Technology and started her writing career with The Economist. She
went on to cover the particle physics and cosmology beat at Science Magazine
before coming to the Philadelphia Inquirer to write about science for the
general public. She wrote two weekly science columns covering the science of
sex, which led to her book. Another column, “Planet of the Apes,” explored the
topic of evolution.
