Daffodils

Today I am grateful for daffodils.  What a happy, friendly flower.  It would take a daffodil made of steel to push through the ice and snow still covering the ground this year, but I bet they are under there, trying.

Daffodils don’t like to be alone.  I like that about them.  Oh, they can certainly stand alone, it’s just not their preference.  They like crowds, their own tribe, just like people.

We plant them in fall, when we are all done with the gardening thing, then forget about them, until they start popping up in grocery stores all over the place, long before we see them in our yards.

Today I’m going to buy some daffodils and put them in a basket on my kitchen table.  They’ll look happy and friendly and remind me of what’s going on under the ice and snow as the entire country thinks Spring.
