Dog Sitting

Today I am grateful we will have a dog in the house for a few days.  Ever since my perfect golden retriever, Frieda died almost three years ago, we have not had a dog.  I miss it, but take the adoption of a pet very seriously (spay/neuter, grooming, vet bills, food, toys, etc.).  We simply cannot afford the luxury of a dog right now.

The good part about being pet-free is that you can get up and go whenever you want, wherever you want.  I’ve almost got myself convinced it’s worth it to not have a dog for that useless reason.  Can you tell? With kids grown and an hour away, our days of the easy dog sitter are over.  So we are now the dog sitters and love it.  It’s like having a dog with benefits and a 100% return policy.

For the next few days we are hosting Winnie Braun, a yorkie-poo who could take a nap on a dinner plate.  She’s a tiny dog with a big attitude.  We never, ever had a dog smaller than a beagle and our largest breeds were an Irish Wolfhound and a Newfoundland mix.  That’s a lot of dog!  Those guy’s droppings in the yard were bigger than Winnie!

Granddogs are almost as good as grandkids.  When you get tired of their whining and making a mess everywhere. . .you can send them home!  For that I am grateful.
