Today I am grateful for yellow rubber boots. I’m driving along on a gray and gloomy day, over hills, around curves, fiddling with the radio, my brain on auto-pilot, when I see him all alone, near a partially constructed shed.

He’s a grown man, tall and husky, with longish hair and a burly man’s-man look about him. He’s wearing work clothes, with a tool belt hanging from his tight jeans. His pant legs are tucked into bright yellow rubber boots. Not olive drab, not black, not trimmed with a dark color. Solid yellow! They stand out like lemons in coal bin, but he doesn’t flinch wearing them.
