Lansdale Welcomes Christmas With Tree Lighting

Santa Claus, Mayor Andy Szekely and Little Miss Lansdale Allison Macartney flipped the switch that lit the huge Christmas tree in Railroad Plaza Saturday night, as Tuba Force played on

As Tuba Force played its last tunes on the stage in Railroad Plaza, the sound of a Fairmount Fire Co. fire engine segued into the event that would mark Christmas arriving in Lansdale.
The truck rounded the corner, and in tow, there was another thing big, red and familiar--Santa Claus.
As he shook hands with children and parents, Santa walked up to the gigantic Christmas tree at the corner of Main and Madison streets, where he met Mayor Andy Szekely and "Little Miss Lansdale" Allison Macartney atop a small staircase.
With a countdown from 10, and a flip of a switch, the tree lit up Railroad Plaza and ushered in the Christmas season to Lansdale.
Then, Santa walked across Madison Street and took his seat inside the Santa House, where a line of eager nice boys and girls already formed outside its door.
Rosenberger's, Hatfield and Boy Scout Troop 141 of Hatfield provided free hot dogs, hot chocolate and refreshments to the crowd.
