Big Ten: Reports from Fall Camp (8/18–8/25)

Indiana Hoosiers

Indiana Sophomore RG Dan Freeney will miss the entire 2013 season with foot surgery to repair a Lisfranc fracture in his right foot that he gained in last week’s scrimmage. Freeney started all 12 games for the Hoosiers last season (a record for a Freshman), and he recorded 54 knockdowns while also never allowing a sack in 935 snaps on offense. Luckily for Indiana, Freeney still has his redshirt available to use on this injure which will give him three more years of eligibility after this season. Sophomore Jake Reed will most likely replace Freeney at the right guard spot; however, Indiana was looking to Freeney to anchor the offensive line in the Hoosiers' effort to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2007.

Iowa Hawkeyes

Iowa's starting QB will be Sophomore Jake Rudock, backup to James Vandenberg last season. Rudock won the job over Junior Cody Sokol and redshirt Freshman C.J. Beanthard (both will backup Rudock). The new starting QB has some game experience since he played one game as a redshirt Freshman last season. Cook (9 for 17, 94 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT) was the backup to Andrew Maxwell last season, who was 234 for 446 for 2,606 yards with 13 TDs and 9 INTs. Andrew Maxwell is the favorite in this battle, but Cook has shown great resilience and progress.

Michigan Wolverines

Michigan's WR corps took a hit last Wednesday when it was announced that projected starter Sophomore Amara Darboh will miss the season with a foot injury. Darboh did not gain any notable statistics; however, Michigan coaches were hoping for a break out season for him.

Michigan State Spartans

The Spartans QB battle just became crazier as Head Coach Mike Dantonio has made it a four-man race between redshirt Freshman Tyler O'Connor, true Freshman Damion Terry, Sophomore Connor Cook, and last season's starter Senior Andrew Maxwell.

Nebraska Cornhuskers

Sophomore DT Kevin Williams will be out for the year with a knee injury. Williams' absence will only hurt the depth of the D-Line for the Cornhuskers as he was slated to be a top reserve behind projected starters redshirt Freshman Vincent Valentine and Senior Thad Randle. Last season the defense piled up 31 sacks along with a 4.8 ypr.

Purdue Boilermakers

The Boilermakers' QB battle is over and Senior Rob Henry has come out on top over True Freshman Danny Etling. Henry has seen much playing time over the years, but in 2011 he tore his ACL after he passed for 996 yards as a redshirt Freshman backup. Last season, the Senior was 21 for 38 gaining 216 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT while also rushing for 74 yards and 1 TD. Many players on the offense have shown excitement with the pick of Henry for the starting position because they are most familiar with his way on the field.
