Pac-12: Reports from Fall Camp (8/18 - 8/25)

UCLA Bruins

UCLA was hit by two transfers this week with the departure of redshirt Freshman QB T.J. Millweard and true Freshman OLB Jeremy Castro. Millweard is transferring to Kansas and Head Coach Charlie Weis who is pulling in many transfers from other major schools. Castro, a projected starter, will transfer to Hawaii and will sit out the upcoming season.

USC Trojans

Head Coach Lane Kiffin has announced that the quarterback battle between Sophomores Max Wittek and Cody Kessler will continue into the season opener against Hawaii Thursday night. The #1 spot could go either way as it has been a tight race throughout fall camp. The edge, in my opinion, has to go to Max Wittek because he came in to relieve starter Matt Barkley when he was injured last season so he gained much game experience. Wittek (36 for 69, 388 yards, 3 TDs, 5 INTs) started in the final two games (vs. #1 Notre Dame, Sun Bowl vs. Georgia Tech) and seemed to have a good grasp of the offense, despite losing both of those games to end a very disappointing season overall for the Trojans who started the year #1 in the AP Poll.  Kessler appeared in a couple of plays throughout the season but not enough to be dubbed real "game time". So, the battle comes down to who can play better on Thursday against Hawaii, a team that can always surprise.
