Alleged Lansdale Thrift Store Attempted Knifepoint Robber Heads to Trial

Derek Joel Brady, 26, of Lansdale, is accused of robbing the former Attic thrift store at knifepoint on Oct. 3.

Although two witnesses could not positively identify Derek Brady, 26, of the first block of West Second Street, as the alleged knifepoint robber of the former Attic thrift store on Oct. 3, District Judge Harold Borek on Thursday held nine of 10 criminal charges him for county trial at a preliminary hearing, per The Reporter.
Brady, who is free on $25,000 bail, is charged with robbery with threat of immediate serious injury, robbery with threat of immediate bodily injury, attempted robbery, theft, attempted theft, terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and possessing an instrument of crime with intent, per court records.
A former cashier testified that a man in a black-hooded sweatshirt and black bandana approached the register around 11 a.m. Oct. 3, displayed a black-handled knife and demanded money, per the testimony in the article. After she refused, the man stabbed at the register in an attempt to open, and when unsuccessful, fled out the back door of the business.
The woman testified there was "no way to absolutely identify him," per the article.
A second witness, a patron of the store who was near the register at the time of the incident, testified he could not see anything below the bridge of the robber's nose, but was "certain" Brady was the alleged robber, per the article.
A third witness, a Lansdale detective, testified that tips came in that Brady was the alleged robber after surveillance footage was released to the press, according to the report. Police also obtained Brady's text messages that allegedly referenced him being the man in the surveillance footage.
Brady, who works at Asher's Chocolates in Franconia, reported to work at 8 a.m. Oct. 3, but told his boss that he was sick and was sent home by 9 a.m., per the affidavit.
A search warrant at Brady's apartment on Oct. 7 found a knife matching the one used in The Attic attempted robbery, police said.
