Be Aware of Fake Publishers Clearing House Money Order Scam: Cops

Police said callers are contacting township residents claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House and requesting money.

Towamencin Township residents have been the targets of a scam involving someone pretending to be from Publishers Clearing House requesting Green Dot or Money Pak cards and money, police said.
Towamencin Police said this is a common scam circulating in the area.
Someone calls a residence claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House, telling the homeowner he or she has won a prize, police said.
The caller then tells the potential victim to drive somewhere to buy a Green Dot or money order, pay a shipping and handling or delivery fee, prepay taxes, pay a deposit, give a credit card number, call a 1-900 number or buy a product with a discount voucher, police said.
Police said requests such as the type above are not affiliated with Publishers Clearing House.
Those who may have been victim to this type of fraud are advised to call Publisher's Clearing House at 1-800-392-4190.
