Board Approves $75K Purchase for In-Car Police Cameras

Montgomery Township supervisors recently approved the purchase of 12 camera systems for township police vehicles.

The township will be reimbursed for the purchase, as the $75,000 is part of a 2009 matching-fund grant that covers 100 percent of the cost.

The in-car equipment includes a main camera, a GPS system, a 360-degree recording capability, an in-car microphone and a wireless digital microphone to be worn by police officers.

Chief Richard Brady said the $75,000 will be wire transferred to a Chicago-based company that will provide the equipment.

Brady said the grant covers training and installation of the equipment.
