Craigslist Rental Scam Hits Lansdale

Police want residents to be aware of recent Craigslist house rental scam on Fairview Avenue

Be aware: There is no home for rent on Fairview Avenue in Lansdale Borough, per a Craigslist ad.

It is merely a scam, police said.

On Sept. 30, a 5:15 p.m., Lansdale Police spoke to a female resident of the 100 block of Green Street, who reported she found a home for rent on Craigslist on the unit block of Fairview Avenue.

She sent an email to the person who posted the ad, David A. Keller.

Police said Keller sent her an email back indicating that he was moving to Africa immediately and could not let her inside the property.

However, she could send a $450 deposit and he would send her the keys.

Keller wrote that he and his wife built the house themselves after they got married several years ago, police said.

The house is a row home.

The resident realized the ad was a scam and reported it to Craigslist, the listing real estate agent and Lansdale Police.

Police said the resident was advised that the property was never listed by the Realtor on Craigslist.

The Lansdale Police is requesting that everyone be aware of this ever-increasing scam on Craigslist. Please take every type of precaution when purchasing anything on-line.
