Did You Know Green Street in Lansdale is One Way?

If you turn off White's Road onto Green Street in Lansdale, cruising past the cemetery on your right, congratulations, you're going the right way.

If you ever see the cemetery on your left, that's not right. 

Also, if you find yourself going the wrong way on Green, look for the lack of a stop sign at its intersection with White's Road.

At present, there are no one way signs on that part of Green Street: The intersection doesn't have one and there isn't one coming out of Lansdale Cemetery onto Green Street.

There's also not one across from a popular turnaround driveway on Green Street, which drivers use to turn around and go back down the wrong way.

Councilwoman Mary Fuller said a resident on the 500 block of Green Street, who lives near the cemetery, complained about drivers constantly using a little driveway on cemetery property to turn around and continue the wrong way down the street.

"The resident told me is, what happens a lot, people come into Green off White's Road—going in the proper direction—decide they are not where they want to be, and use this little driveway and go back out the wrong way," Fuller told the public safety committee this month.

"So, they go the wrong way down a one way street to go back to White's Road," she said. "I'm wondering if we might want to consider, across from where the driveway opens up, a one way black and white arrow, reminding the person trying to turn around that they’re not supposed to take a left. If a car pulls in to turn around, across the street is where it will work."

Lansdale Police Chief Robert McDyre said Green Street was problematic with people going one way.

"We did direct patrolling and got nothing for three months," he said. "We tried our best, nothing's happening."

McDyre was uncertain if the cemetery traffic is one way.

"If I pull in near the mausoleum, I can back out and go onto Broad Street," said Fuller. "I'm wondering if there is an arrow or some one way designation if you come out onto Green Street? I dont think there is."

McDyre said he will take care of looking into placement of a one way sign across from the turnaround driveway.
