Driver in Crash Identified, Remains in Critical Condition

Benjamin Marchese, 47, of Ivywood Way, Towamencin, was flown to Abington Hospital for treatment.

Police have identified the driver of a pickup truck that crashed on Troxel Road Tuesday night in Towamencin as Benjamin J. Marchese, 47, of the 1500 block of Ivywood Way, Towamencin.

As of 1:40 p.m., he is in critical condition at Abington Hospital.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Marchese was traveling southbound on Troxel Road, toward Sumneytown Pike, when he somehow lost control, struck several mailboxes along the roadway, and struck a guiderail in front of Seventh Day Adventist Church, police said.

The impact with the guiderail caused the pickup to overturn onto its roof, then its driver's side, traveling about 75 feet before coming to a rest back on its wheels near Carriage Way and a bridge transversing a creek next to the church.

Upon arrival at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, police found the truck with substantial damage facing southbound in the northbound lane of Troxel Road.

Marchese was still in the vehicle, unconscious and without a pulse. He was extricated from the vehicle and resuscitated on scene by EMS personnel from Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale.

Marchese was then transported to Abington Health Lansdale Hospital for treatment, but he was released Tuedsay night and then flown to Abington Hospital's main campus.

The crash is under investigation.
