Driver Pulls Over for Medical Emergency, Hits Tree

Police said the driver appeared to be having a medical emergency on the side of the road, and then accelerated and hit a tree

Towamencin Township Police Sgt. Dan Jusko said a female driver hit a tree in front of after she stopped on the side of the road for what appeared to be a medical emergency.

The woman was taken out of her maroon Chevy Trailblazer by Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale and transported to Abington Health-Lansdale Hospital.

Jusko said officers on regular patrol on Sumneytown Pike came upon the woman in her vehicle on the side of the road. He said officers were not able to stop her from driving into the tree.

"Officers saw her pulled off on the side of the road. It looks like she was having a medical emergency," Jusko said. "And then ended up driving into the tree."

There were no other occupants in the vehicle, Jusko said.

The vehicle sustained damage to its front left side.

The accident is under investigation.
